Ag Facts
Here are a few things you may not have known about agriculture:
- According to the 2007 census, crops and livestock accounted for $156 million in crop and livestock sales.
- Farms generate supporting business enterprises. Local farm operations spent over $128 million locally in goods and services in 2007.
- For every $1.00 of property tax collected in residential developments, the community will spend between $1.20-$1.50 to provide services (roads, police, fire protection). In comparison, for every $1.00 in property tax paid by a farm, the community will spend only approximately $0.20 to provide services. (Nationwide average: American Farmland Trust Cost of Community Services Study.)
